Ryan Tirda
My name is Ryan Tirda, I was born and raised in Oxford, inspired to begin drawing at a very young age by a late maternal grandmother who was a superb amateur artist; my younger days were spent developing my artistic preferences and experimenting with areas such as street art and black book illustrations. This helped foster a unique style and freedom to explore other mediums. Like experimenting with domestic materials in art, using intense shots of coffee as paint to lift a design in warmth from the page or using cardboard, scrapers or even a knife as alternative brushes. These unusual materials help to bring a different quality to my work and it also teaches you to optimise all the materials around you in day to day life in order to create.

Thriving on the challenge of trying something new, be it experimenting with materials or enjoying a new spontaneous process of creation. I love the way an idea begins to form on paper and how a slight mistake by the artist can take a piece and transform it into something completely different. It is liberating to allow yourself to make errors in design and let the art create itself. The only limitation is your imagination.

Not following any one particular style all my work is original, taking well known vistas or pieces of work and re-interpreting them in a different way – providing a unique take on things you may have already seen. The diversity of my art work is such that it can be enjoyed by many different subcultures of people.

My work includes geometric design, double exposure illustrations, strong precise lines and attention to detail incorporating personal symbolism and meanings tapping into Art Deco and nouveau styles. It is based in the fantasy realm with hints of reality spilling through, giving an impression of a dream state. The art urges the viewer to complete the piece with their imagination which gives it a personal feel to every individual.

Living in Oxford means having access to a lively multi-cultural society as well as some fantastic architecture and of course museums, which are referenced a lot in my illustrations. Observing people should be a hobby of any artist as it helps to provide inspiration and a quiet time to sketch the human form at its most realistic and relaxed and I urge all creative types to do it
