Phil Adamson

My name is Phil Adamson and I have been involved in art for almost my entire life. I have studied Art through school and University where I have my BA HONS in Fine Art. I feel that my time spent at University was somewhat wasted as the 'real' development and improvement in my art came after I graduated and was able to spend the time focusing on what I wanted to do.

Since leaving higher education I have been focused on drawing and painting what I like. My main medium for painting is Oil Paints. I have tried other mediums but none have the same feel or movement as oil paint does. I find that oil paint allows you more freedom and movement within a piece of art work whereas some other mediums can be quite restricting.

My drawings tend to be made up largely of charcoal. First starting out with very broad marks and suggestions which I use a Charcoal Sachet for. ( Fancy way of saying crushed up charcoal in a sock). This allows me to keep my drawings fairly loose while I figure out proportions and  composition. Then I begin refining with charcoal sticks and then finally with compressed charcoal pencils.

I enjoy painting and drawing dancers. I like the task of trying to paint something that is moving and being able to portray that on canvas or paper by expressive and broad brush strokes.

I am also a massive fan of comic art and movies. A lot of the work I do in these fields are at the moment, for my own enjoyment and satisfaction but I would like to be able to branch out further and dedicate more time to this.
